How to Source Used Trucks from China: Roles, Checks and Export

2026-10-11 · China Reman Truck Alliance

A transparent sourcing process starts by separating the roles of the truck seller, buyer-side sourcing adviser, inspection provider, logistics provider and licensed exporter. Put the contracting and payment flows on paper before a deposit is sent.

Verify the business and truck

Confirm the legal name and business licence of the contracting factory or seller, its actual role, bank-account consistency, workshop capability, truck identity and written configuration. Ask who owns or controls the truck, who is responsible for defects, what the refurbishment includes and who will provide warranty support. Treat factory claims as claims until supporting evidence is reviewed.

Make export responsibility explicit

China's 2024 five-agency announcement says used-vehicle exports are subject to export-licence management and approved exporters apply under the 'who exports, who applies' principle. If CRTA does not hold the required qualification, the website and contracts should describe export as coordinated through a qualified partner and identify the actual exporter for the transaction.

Check quality and destination rules

The buyer, factory, exporter and inspection provider should agree on the inspection report, quality scope, shipping documents, payment milestones and destination-market requirements. The MOFCOM work notice also calls for used commercial vehicles to meet the applicable quality standard and have a third-party inspection report. Confirm current requirements with the responsible exporter and local import adviser.

Map every party to a contract duty

Before paying, draw a simple responsibility map covering seller, buyer-side adviser, inspector, exporter, forwarder and insurer. For each party, write who contracts with whom, who receives money, who issues each document and who handles a defect or delay. Ask the qualified exporter to confirm the current licence and transaction route for the specific order.
